After 16 weeks
If you have not made a full recovery at this point you are likely to have longer-term problems with muscle weakness and synkinesis although these may resolve slowly over months but not completely. Your main goal is to maintain muscle health, inhibit synkinesis and repattern your facial movements. The key components of your rehabilitation programme should be:
- Relaxation
- Muscle releases
- Retraining movements to inhibit synkinesis
- Eye care
Progress will continue for many weeks to follow. An appointment with a specialist facial palsy service would offer you the optimum help to maximise your recovery but this may not always be possible. An adjunct to a facial rehabilitation programme
